The Palazzo dei Musei

Palazzo dei MuseiThe Civic Museums are located in a building that was constructed between 1764 and 1771 upon the wishes of Duke Francis III of Este. Originally the location of the Ducal Armoury, then of the Albergo dei Poveri (Hospice for the Poor), and later of the Albergo delle Arti (Hotel of the Arts) with factories and plants, the building was purchased in 1881 by the Municipality of Modena for the purpose of housing the cultural institutions of the city. Since that time it has been called the “Palazzo dei Musei” (Museums Building).

Also located on the ground floor are the information desk-ticket window, the bookshop, the cafeteria, the DIDA educational workshop, the conference room (ex-oratorio), the elevator and the wi-fi zone.

Monday to Friday  7.30 a.m.-7.30 p.m.
Saturday 8 a.m.-7.30 p.m.
Sunday 9.45 a.m. - 7.30 p.m. (every month only the first Sunday openibg hour 8.30 a.m; from June 15th to september 15th opening hour  1.45 p.m.)
