Villa Sorra

Villa Sorra is one of the most remarkable historical mansions in the area of Modena.

The collection, named Raccolta della vita contadina, was created in 1973 when the painter and antiquarian Celestino Simonini decided to donate to the Municipality of Modena a conspicuous heritage of “material culture” gathered during various years of research, to be hosted in Villa Sorra. It is constituted by tools and handmade and manufactured objects belonging to different moments of home life and rural work, coming from the area of Modena. They represent a witness of our past and give us a remarkable documentation for the study of our history.

Later including several further donations, the collection with its more than 9000 objects is one of the most outstanding in the region. Presently it is not open to the public, except from the yearly summer exhibitions, pending the restoration of the mansion rooms.
